Here at Evolve, we know there’s no place like home, so we want it to feel like you’re on a permanent vacation. And (especially) after this past year, it’s safe to say we could all use a little more of that! Evolve Surf City in Hampstead, NC just welcomed its first move-ins in February! This brand new, luxury community is the perfect place to start an evolution and live your own permanent vacation. A saltwater swimming pool complete with private cabanas help create an oasis all your own right outside your front door.

A state-of-the-art fitness center and yoga room are at your fingertips. And for all of our pet-parents out there, be sure to check out the pet wash and dog park when your pup wants some playtime!

Evolve Surf City is currently offering hard-hat tours daily. Reach out to the office to set up an appointment!

Crafty Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for All of Your Favorite People

Homemade Valentine’s Day gift ideas for your favorite people

Valentine’s Day is usually a holiday that people either love or hate, but when you make it about all of your favorite people, you get to have fun with it! Here at Evolve, we’re all about getting crafty with thoughtful gifts—particularly when they can be used throughout your apartment home. Check out these crafty Valentine’s Day gift ideas for all of your favorite people!

Homemade candles

There’s nothing quite as cozy as the smell of a candle—especially when it’s homemade! We love this super simple tutorial on Oprah Magazine.

The main necessities are wax, fragrance and coloring, wicks, a thermometer, a wooden stirring stick, pour pot, saucepan, and any heat-proof container you’d like to hold the candle. Finding the perfect container for each Valentine is where you really get to be creative. Brightly colored ceramic jars and mason jars are some of our favorites.

Terrariums

This is one of our favorite crafty Valentine’s Day gift ideas. Who doesn’t love a good houseplant?! Terrariums are amazing because they’re so unique, easy to maintain, fun to create, and they provide the perfect finishing touch to anyone’s space.

This DIY terrarium is so easy and it’s an awesome way to get creative for your favorite people. You’ll need stones, activated charcoal, potting soil, pebbles, small gardening tools, plants (of course), and a glass vessel.

Any glass vessel will work, but we’re big fans of anything uniquely shaped—like those little geometric beauties!

And as for your plants, cacti, succulents and air plants work really well because they’re small and thrive in humidity.

Handmade soap

Handmade soap is such a thoughtful addition to any home. It can be a little tricky, but when you work in small batches and follow tried and true recipes, the outcome will be so sweet!

Lovely Greens shares three easy, beginner recipes that we love. But the best thing about it is how creative you can really get. Add in your favorite essential oils and dried flower petals or herbs to create a personalized masterpiece for your Valentine!

Marble-dipped mugs

We are all about these stunning marble-dipped mugs! They make the perfect crafty Valentine’s Day gift for your favorite people. All you need is a mug, nail polish, and old container you don’t mind ruining, a bamboo skewer or toothpick, and paper towels or parchment paper.

Partially fill your container with warm water, pour a few drops of the nail polish of your choice (try using two different colors for more dimension), swirl with the skewer, and dip your mug! Let it dry on a paper towel, and voila! Your Valentines will love these gifts just as much as we do.

Macrame wall hangings

This Valentine’s Day gift idea is one of those fun projects that seems a lot more difficult that it really is. There are so many great tutorials on the internet showing different knots and patterns.

Macrame for Beginners has shared 15 of their favorite wall hangings for beginners, and they’re beautiful! All you’ll need is cord, a wooden dowl or stick, and string to hang it with! The process is so therapeutic, and the results are always stunning. This is the perfect gift for your interior design-loving Valentine!

Ways to Simplify Your Apartment Home in 2021

Happy New Year, friends! With 2020 in the rearview, we at Evolve know now more than ever how exciting a new chapter is for this next year. After spending so much time at home this past year, we learned how important it is to create our own personal oasis right where you are. In 2021, we’re looking forward to simplifying our space in order to create more room to evolve! Check out these 5 ways to simplify your apartment home in 2021. Get ready to grow with us!

Start with bite-sized pieces

Keep it small at first! Start with just five minutes a day. Toss out all of the junk mail and random papers that always seem to pile up for no reason. Sometimes the extra layer of clutter that coats the surface can keep us from seeing what’s underneath that needs to go! This is why we love starting with trash and smaller items that you don’t have to think too hard about letting go of.

Keep surfaces clear

We love this idea, particularly in the kitchen. Keeping all of your surfaces clear allows you to figure out what you actually use on a daily / regular basis. Be intentional with the items you display. Evolve communities feature beautiful solid-surface countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms that want to be seen!

Clean out your closets

Ah, the closets! These can feel pretty overwhelming at times—particularly if this is where all of your extra items end up. Try starting with your least intimidating closet. This might be your coat or linen closet. We love pulling out everything, so we have a really clear look at what’s there. Have your trash bag or empty box ready for all of the things you want to donate. And don’t be afraid to be ruthless! Now is your chance to be honest about what you use or wear, and what you don’t. We’re big fans of using cute rattan bins or baskets for additional storage and organization!

Does it bring you joy?

We love this classic Marie Kondo question. It’s particularly helpful for the more decorative items sprinkled throughout your apartment home. You may not even notice some of them are there anymore because they have been for so long! This is when it’s super important to check in with each item—ask yourself if it brings you joy, or if it’s just there? If there’s no joy, let it go.

Learn to say no!

We’re all about boundaries, baby! When you’ve simplified your apartment home, learning to say no is the best way to keep your space exactly the way you want it. Accumulating random decor or clothes you’ll never wear will put you back at square one. Keep the things that match your personality and needs, and only add new items when they feel right to help keep your space simple and intentional.

What’s Ahead for 2021

Aside from the project we’ve just finished, we officially broke ground on a new project called The Perch, nestled just outside of Chapel Hill, NC. All-in-all, we have a grand total of 11 projects underway right now! That’s right – big things are happening at Evolve!
